Remember that old game? You can pretty much play it, pick any river in our system, and have outstanding fishing this week. Even on the sunny days, we’ve found fish looking up in earnest.
Blackfoot River Fishing Report
Find shade on the Blackfoot, and be ready to show em something other than a salmonfly.
Bitterroot River Report
On the Bitterroot it’s mostly PMD’s and Yellow Sallies thus far. The upper river seems ready to explode with goldens and Bitterroot stones, though, and anyone who’s ever experienced these two hatches on this river knows they’re worth waiting for.
We also haven’t seen a big Drake push yet, either–look for these green bugs to pop in earnest on the cloudy days forecasted in the coming days. This is a bug that often fools some of the year’s biggest fish. The nymph is a swimmer, so look for the adults in heavy water.
Clark Fork River Fishing Report
The lower Clark has fish looking up on PMDs and big stones. If the small patches of shade holding pods of risers in the past few days are any indication, a cloudy afternoon will go a long way down here.
Rock Creek Fishing Report
Rock Creek has been…well, Rock Creek–awesome for numbers of quality fish on dries.
In short: this is a good week to call in sick, folks, dust off your favorite 5 weight, and get it bent!
